Tunisia state workers set for pays increase by local media

Tunisian public sector workers are set for a 4% pay rises after the government reached an agreement with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), sources have told the state news agency.

It will be spread out over a three-year period, as the country battles economic hardships.

Tunisia is currently trying to obtain billions of dollars from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the form of a loan to help finance its budget, however, the financial body said the government needed to sign off a deal with the powerful UGTT before it will give the green light to loans, according to the Reuters news agency.

The country is also facing a shortage of goods in the shops.
